# How to print a chat from your iPhone

## Quick answer

In TextPort:

1. Open the chat in **Saved Chats**.
2. Tap **Export** at the bottom.
3. Tap **Print**. **Print Preview** opens.
4. Tap the printer button in the top right.
5. Tap **Printer**. Pick your printer.
6. Tap the print button in the top right.

## What you need

- TextPort on your iPhone
- A chat saved in TextPort
- An AirPrint printer on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone

## Steps

1. Tap the chat in **Saved Chats**

   Open TextPort. The chat opens.

2. Tap **Export**

   It is the blue button at the bottom. **Export Chat** opens.

3. Tap **Print**

   TextPort builds the pages. **Print Preview** opens.

   Tip: TextPort may ask you to unlock this.

4. Check the preview

   Scroll to check it. Each message shows the name, date, and time.

5. Tap the printer button

   It is the blue button in the top right. **Options** opens.

6. Tap **Printer**

   It is the top row of **Options**. A list of printers opens.

7. Tap your printer

   **Options** shows again, with your printer in the top row.

   Tip: If your printer is not in the list, turn it on and join the same Wi-Fi.

8. Tap the print button

   It is in the top right of **Options**. Your pages print.

## Done

You have a paper copy of the chat. Every message shows the name, date, and time.

## Problems

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| Your printer is not in the list. | Turn the printer on. Join it to the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone. The printer must work with AirPrint. |
| You have no printer. | Tap **PDF** instead of **Print**. Save the PDF to **Files**. Print it at a shop or a library. See [Export a chat to PDF](https://textport.com/guides/export-a-chat-to-pdf.md). |
| You need only some dates. | In **Print Preview**, tap the filter icon next to the printer button. Pick a start date and an end date. The filter shows only for chats from Messages, WhatsApp, or LINE that cover more than one day. |

| It prints too many pages. | In **Options**, tap **Layout**. Pick more pages per sheet. Or tap **Range** and pick fewer pages. |

## Questions

### Can I print in black and white?

Yes, on most printers. After you pick a printer, look for a Black & White switch in Options. Not every printer shows it.

### How many pages will it be?

**Print Preview** shows each page. Scroll to the end to count them.
