# How to search all your chats with TextPort

## Quick answer

In **Saved Chats**:

1. Tap the magnifying glass at the top.
2. Type a word or a name.
3. Tap **When** or **Chats** to narrow it, if you need.
4. Tap a message to see it in its chat.

Search looks in every saved chat.

## What you need

- TextPort on your iPhone
- A chat saved in TextPort

## Steps

1. Tap the magnifying glass

It is in the top right of **Saved Chats**. The search box opens.

2. Type a word

The box is at the top. Messages with the word show under **Messages**.

Tip: Type a name to find a chat. It shows under **Chats**.

3. Tap **When** to pick dates

This step is optional. Pick a time, like **Last 30 Days**. Only those messages stay.

Tip: **Chats** picks the chats. **More** picks who sent it.

4. Tap a message

Each result shows the chat name and the date. The word is in bold.

5. Read around it

Search closes. The chat opens at that message.

## Done

You found the message and can read the chat around it.

## Problems

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| There is no magnifying glass in **Saved Chats**. | It shows once a chat is done importing. Wait for the chat to finish. Then look again. |
| **No Results** | Check the spelling. Try a shorter word. If filters are on, tap **Clear Filters**. |
| **No Results Yet** | TextPort is still getting your chats ready to search. Keep TextPort open for a minute. Then search again. |
| **More results may appear** | Some chats are not ready yet. Wait a moment. The list fills in by itself. |
| **Your iPhone is low on storage. Free up some space to search every chat.** | Delete some photos or apps you do not need. Then open TextPort again. |
| **Couldn't Search** | Tap **Try Again**. |
| You want to leave search. | Tap the **X** next to the search box. |
| None of these match. | Email [support@textportapp.com](mailto:support@textportapp.com). Say which step you were on. Say what you saw. We usually reply within a day. |

## Questions

### Does search look inside every chat?

Yes. It looks in every chat that is done importing. A chat that is still importing shows up when it is done.

### Does it find part of a word?

It finds words that start with what you type. **tru** finds truck. It does not find words that only end with it.

### Does search send my words anywhere?

No. TextPort keeps a search list on your iPhone and searches it there.

### Can I search just one chat?

Yes. Open the chat and tap the magnifying glass. See [Search inside a chat](https://textport.com/guides/search-inside-a-chat.md).
