# How to tell TextPort which person is you

## Quick answer

TextPort asks **Which one is you?** at the end of a Messages import.

1. Tap your name.
2. Tap **Finish import**.

Your messages then show on the right. The chat opens by itself.

## What you need

- TextPort on your iPhone
- A Messages import that has finished reading the chat

## Steps

1. Tap your name

**Which one is you?** shows each person and how many messages they sent. Tap your name.

Tip: If TextPort picked a name for you, check that it is right.

2. Tap **Finish import**

It is at the bottom. The chat opens by itself.

3. Check the chat

Your messages are on the right.

## Done

TextPort knows which messages are yours. Exports show them as sent by you.

## Problems

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| None of the names is you. | Tap **None of these, I didn’t send any**. This is right if you only read the chat. |
| You want a different name on your messages. | Tap **Your name, shown on your messages**. **Your name in this chat** opens. Type the name. Tap **Save**. |
| **Finish import** is gray. | Tap a name first. If it is still gray, tap **Your name, shown on your messages** and add your name. |
| **No name shown** | Messages did not include the names, so TextPort cannot tell who sent what. Pick the row with your messages, or **None of these, I didn’t send any**. |
| You picked the wrong name. | Tap the chat name at the top. **Chat Details** opens. Tap the person who is you. Turn on **This is me**. Tap the back button, then the **X**. See [Edit the chat name and people's names](https://textport.com/guides/edit-chat-and-contact-names#problem-wrong-me). |
| Your chat is from WhatsApp. | See [Choose which WhatsApp person is you](https://textport.com/guides/choose-which-whatsapp-participant-is-you.md). |
| Your chat is from screenshots, and a message is on the wrong side. | Press and hold the message. Tap **Mark as Outgoing** or **Mark as Incoming**. See [Fix who sent a message](https://textport.com/guides/fix-who-sent-a-message.md). |
| None of these match. | Email [support@textportapp.com](mailto:support@textportapp.com). Say which step you were on. Say what you saw. We usually reply within a day. |

## Questions

### Why does TextPort ask this?

So your messages show on the right, like in Messages. The name also shows on your messages in exports.
