7 Best Apps to Export iPhone Text Messages to a Windows PC in 2026

There is no Messages app for Windows, no iMessage on the web, and iCloud for Windows doesn't sync texts. Microsoft Phone Link shows recent messages while your iPhone is nearby, but it can't save or export anything. To get your texts onto a PC as files, you have two routes: a Windows app that reads an iPhone backup and exports your whole history, or an iPhone app that exports conversations on the phone as PDF, CSV, or TXT files you then move to the PC. This list covers the Windows apps, plus the phone-first option for when a backup isn't practical.
The short answer: TextPort for Windows is the best app to export iPhone text messages to a PC in 2026. It is free, needs no account, backs up your iPhone over a USB cable (or opens a backup already on your PC), and exports iMessage and SMS conversations, one at a time or all at once, to PDF, CSV, or TXT with a ZIP of attachments. Nothing is uploaded. The other six tools below are paid apps that earn their places for specific jobs: CopyTrans Contacts for a cheap Windows-only license with WhatsApp, iMazing for full device management, and Decipher TextMessage for chat-bubble PDFs.
The seven Windows apps at a glance

How desktop message export works on Windows
Every Windows app on this list works the same basic way. Windows can't sign in to iMessage, so the messages come from your iPhone itself, through Apple's backup format:
- Apple Devices (or iTunes on older versions of Windows 10), Apple's free app, lets Windows talk to the iPhone.
- The export app makes a backup of the iPhone on your PC, or connects to the phone directly to read it.
- It reads the Messages data from that backup and exports the conversations you choose.
That means you need the iPhone, its USB cable, and enough free disk space for a backup. The differences between apps are price, how much of that setup they handle for you, which chat apps they cover, and the formats you get out.
If you only need a few conversations, or a backup isn't practical (no cable, not enough disk space, an encrypted backup you can't unlock), skip the backup: TextPort for iPhone exports conversations to PDF, CSV, or TXT on the phone, and you can move the files to your PC by email, OneDrive, or a USB cable.
What to look for
- Guided setup. Backups, Apple Devices, Trust prompts, and encryption are where most people get stuck. An app that walks you through them saves an afternoon.
- Existing backups. If Apple Devices or iTunes already backed up your iPhone to this PC, a good tool opens that backup instead of making a new one.
- Formats. PDF to print or send to a lawyer, CSV for Excel, TXT for plain searchable text.
- Attachments. Photos, videos, and voice messages, ideally at original quality.
- Trial limits. Most paid tools export only a handful of messages until you buy a license. Check before you spend an hour on a backup.
1. TextPort for Windows (best overall, free)

TextPort for Windows exists to do one thing: get the texts on your iPhone onto your PC as files. Install it, plug in your iPhone, unlock it, and tap Trust. TextPort checks that Apple Devices (or iTunes) is installed and helps you set it up, then backs up the iPhone to your PC. You can start reading conversations while the backup is still running, and if the cable slips out, the backup picks up where it stopped.
Already have a backup on this PC from Apple Devices or iTunes? TextPort lists it and opens it without backing up again. It reads unencrypted backups; if encryption is on, it shows you how to turn it off (you'll need your backup password).
Once your conversations appear, including group chats, pick one, several, or all of them, set a date range if you only need certain months, and export:
- PDF with names, dates, and times on every page, ready to print or take to court
- CSV that opens in Excel or Google Sheets, one message per row
- TXT for plain, searchable text
- A ZIP of every photo, video, and attachment in the conversation
TextPort for Windows is a signed installer for Windows 10 and 11. It is free with no export limits, needs no account, and uploads nothing: your messages stay on your PC. It covers iMessage and SMS; for WhatsApp, Instagram, or Signal, use TextPort for iPhone.
Best for: Anyone who wants their iPhone texts on a PC as PDF or CSV without paying for a license or wrestling with backup settings.
Pricing: Free download for Windows.
2. CopyTrans Contacts
CopyTrans Contacts is a Windows-only app (Windows 7, 8.1, 10, and 11) that manages iPhone contacts, calendars, notes, and messages. It reads messages over USB or from a backup, including encrypted backups, and covers SMS, iMessage, WhatsApp, Viber, and LINE. Exports go to PDF, HTML, Word, Excel, TXT, or CSV, with photos, videos, and voice messages saved alongside (CopyTrans).
At $19.99 one-time it's the cheapest paid tool here, and the best value if you need WhatsApp, Viber, or LINE on Windows. The free trial exports only 50 text messages (CopyTrans).
Best for: Windows users who need WhatsApp, Viber, or LINE from an iPhone backup and want a one-time purchase.
Pricing: $19.99 one-time.
3. iMazing

iMazing is a full iPhone manager for Windows and Mac. For messages, it reads SMS, MMS, iMessage, RCS, and WhatsApp from your iPhone over USB or Wi-Fi, or from a backup, and exports to PDF, Excel/CSV, TXT, or RSMF, a format used in legal review, with attachments in bulk (iMazing). It also manages backups, apps, photos, and files.
iMazing retired its one-time license in mid-2025 and now sells subscriptions only; the Personal plan renews yearly and covers up to 20 devices per year on any number of computers (licensing policy). The trial exports 25 Messages items (iMazing). Our step-by-step iMazing walkthrough shows the export flow.
Best for: People who want a complete iPhone toolkit on Windows, including WhatsApp export and backup management.
Pricing: Annual subscription; check iMazing's store for the current price.
4. Decipher TextMessage

Decipher TextMessage reads iPhone backups made by iTunes or Apple Devices on Windows 7 and later, and exports iMessage, SMS, MMS, and RCS conversations to PDF, CSV, HTML, or TXT, with images and videos saved (Decipher Tools). Its PDFs mimic the Messages app's blue and green bubbles, a look many attorneys know.
It's a one-time $29.99 purchase for two device activations. The free trial never expires but shows only a few messages per contact. WhatsApp is a separate product, Decipher Chat. Our Decipher TextMessage review covers it in depth.
Best for: Chat-bubble PDFs for legal use, with a one-time license.
Pricing: $29.99 one-time for two devices.
5. TouchCopy

TouchCopy from Wide Angle Software runs on Windows 10 and 11 (and Mac) and copies messages, music, and photos from an iPhone over USB or Wi-Fi, or from a backup. It covers SMS, RCS, iMessage, WhatsApp, and LINE, with photos, videos, and audio messages, and exports to PDF, HTML, CSV, or plain text (Wide Angle Software).
Licenses start at $30 with no auto-renewal: a lifetime license covers two computers, 6- and 12-month licenses one (purchase page). On Windows, the trial saves only the first 6 messages of each conversation.
Best for: Exporting messages along with music and photos, with a perpetual license.
Pricing: From $30, no auto-renewal.
6. AnyTrans
AnyTrans from iMobie is an iPhone data manager for Windows 7 to 11 and Mac. It exports iMessage, SMS, and WhatsApp conversations with photos, videos, and voice messages to PDF, TXT, or HTML (iMobie), alongside phone-to-phone transfer, iCloud management, and music and photo tools.
iMobie lists a 1-year plan at $39.99 and a lifetime license at $59.99 for one computer at its current sale prices (list $59.99 and $79.99) (buy page). See our AnyTrans alternative if you only need the messages.
Best for: Switching iPhones or managing lots of iPhone data on a PC, with message export as one feature.
Pricing: From about $40 a year, or about $60 for a lifetime license.
7. imessage-exporter (free, open source)
imessage-exporter is a free, open-source command-line tool (GPL-3.0) with a Windows build. Point it at an iPhone backup folder on your PC and it exports every conversation to HTML or TXT, with attachments copied alongside. It reads encrypted backups too. It is actively maintained; version 4.3.0 shipped in September 2026.
It runs in a terminal and doesn't make the backup for you, so you need Apple Devices to create one first. There's no PDF or CSV output, and converting attachments on Windows needs extra tools (ImageMagick and ffmpeg).
Best for: Technical users who want a free HTML archive of an existing backup.
Pricing: Free.
What about Microsoft Phone Link?
Phone Link isn't on this list because it doesn't export anything. With an iPhone, it shows only messages sent and received through Phone Link while the phone is connected, limited to the last 30 days, and the history disappears when Bluetooth disconnects (Microsoft). It's for replying to texts from your PC, not saving them. Our guide to using iMessage on Windows covers Phone Link and the alternatives in detail.
Which Windows app should you choose?

|---|---|
| Your iMessage and SMS history as PDF or CSV, free | TextPort for Windows |
| WhatsApp, Viber, or LINE from a backup, cheapest license | CopyTrans Contacts |

Exporting iPhone texts for court on a PC
For a custody case, a harassment claim, or another legal matter, export to PDF so every message shows a name, date, and time. Keep the original messages on your iPhone, check the export against them, and ask your attorney how your court wants them presented. See whether text messages can be used in court and TextPort for court.
Have a Mac instead?
On a Mac, you don't need a backup at all: TextPort for Mac reads the Messages already synced to your Mac through iCloud. See the best apps to export iMessages on Mac. With no computer at all, TextPort for iPhone exports conversations directly on your phone, including WhatsApp, Instagram DMs, Messenger, Telegram, and Signal.
