A normal tap starts a new recording. A long press opens your Photos instead.

I do not see my video in the list.

The picker only shows videos. Make sure the recording is saved in Photos, not in Files. In Files, tap Share, then Save Video.

Can I import a video from Files?

Save it to Photos first. Open the file, tap Share, tap Save Video. Then import it from Photos.

You will get a saved chat from a screen recording that is already in your Photos.

You do not need the TextPort recorder. Any screen recording of a chat works. Pick it from Photos.

Open Scroll Capture

Tap Add Chat. Pick the app. For Messages, tap Import with Scroll Capture. For any other app, tap On Your iPhone. Recorded a WhatsApp chat? Pick Other as the app. The WhatsApp choice only offers its own file import.

Long press Start Screen Recording

Press and hold the blue button for one second. Do not tap it.

Pick the video

Your videos open. Tap the screen recording.

Trim the video

Drag the yellow handles so the video starts and ends on the chat. Tap Start Processing.

Wait

TextPort reads the text in the video. A long chat takes a few minutes. You can leave the app.

Open your chat

The chat shows up in Saved Chats. Tap it to read it.

Your chat is saved as real text, made from the recording you already had.

Made the recording with the iOS Control Center recorder? That works. Any screen recording works.
Someone sent you a recording? Save it to Photos first. Then follow these steps.
Videos that pan or zoom read worse. A plain scroll is best.
