Where is Export chat?

Open the chat. Tap the name at the top. Scroll to the very bottom of that page. It is near the end.

Export chat is gray or missing.

The chat may have Advanced Chat Privacy turned on. That blocks export for everyone in the chat. Ask the other person to turn it off, or use Scroll Capture instead.

Does it work for group chats?

Yes. Each message shows who sent it.

Can I put the chat back into WhatsApp later?

No. An export is a copy for reading and sharing. To restore chats, use WhatsApp's own backup.

How to export a WhatsApp chat to TextPort

What you need

WhatsApp can export any chat as a file. Send that file to TextPort. You get a clean chat with photos, ready to export or print.

Tap Add Chat

Open TextPort. Tap Add Chat at the bottom.

Pick WhatsApp

Tap the app name at the top. Pick WhatsApp. Then tap the Import from WhatsApp card.

Tap Open WhatsApp

TextPort shows the steps. Tap Open WhatsApp at the bottom.

Open the chat in WhatsApp

Tap the chat you want to save.

Tap the name at the top

Tap the contact or group name at the top of the chat. The chat info page opens.

Tap Export chat

Scroll all the way down. Tap Export chat.

Pick Attach media or Without media

Tap Attach media to keep photos, videos, and voice notes. Tap Without media for text only.

Tap TextPort

The share sheet opens. Find TextPort in the row of apps. Tap it.

Tell TextPort which person is you

TextPort opens and reads the file. It may ask which name is you. Tap your name.

Open your chat

The chat shows up in Saved Chats. Tap it to read it.

Done

Your WhatsApp chat is saved in TextPort with every message. Now you can export it as a PDF, spreadsheet, or text file.

Tips

Attach media makes a bigger file. It can take a minute to build on a long chat.
Cannot find TextPort in the share sheet? Tap More at the end of the row. Or save the file to Files, then share it to TextPort from there.
