How many screenshots can I import at once?

There is no hard limit. Long chats with hundreds of screenshots work, but take longer.

Do the screenshots stay on my phone?

Yes. Your screenshots stay in Photos. TextPort keeps its own copy so it can show you the source later. You can delete that copy under Settings › Your Data .

Some messages are missing or wrong. What now?

Open the chat and long press a message to fix its text or time, or to delete it. TextPort can not add a message by hand. If a lot is missing, retake the screenshots with more overlap and import again.

How to import a chat from screenshots

You will get a saved chat in TextPort, made from screenshots you already took.

What you need

Screenshots work for any chat app. TextPort reads the words in each picture and builds a chat you can search and export.

Steps

Tap Add Chat

Open TextPort. Tap Add Chat at the bottom.

Pick the app

Tap the app name at the top. Pick the app the chat is in, like Messages (1) or Instagram. Do not pick WhatsApp (2) here. WhatsApp has its own import.

Tap the first card

It says Import with Scroll Capture for Messages. For other apps it says On Your iPhone. Tap it.

Tap the Screenshots tab

At the top there are two tabs. Tap Screenshots.

Tap Import Screenshots

Your Photos library opens.

Pick your screenshots

Tap each screenshot of the chat. Pick them in order, top to bottom. Then tap the checkmark in the top right.

Wait

TextPort reads the text in each screenshot. This can take a minute for a long chat. You can leave the app. Turn on Notify when done in Settings to get a ping.

Open your chat

The chat shows up in Saved Chats. Tap it to read it.

Done

Your chat is saved as real text. You can search it, fix it, and export it.

Tips

Overlap your screenshots. The last message in one should be the first in the next. TextPort removes the doubles.
Keep dates and times on screen when you can. TextPort uses them.
Blurry or cropped screenshots give worse results. Retake them if you can.
